This week was a bit low on miles due to the race. I was feeling sick with a stomach bug and was unable to finish the workout on Tuesday. My biggest concern for the weekend was to make sure my stomach problems did not come back. The race was a perfect one for me and Nate and we were both very happy with the turnout. The race felt much easier than the 14:20 from last month. Things are looking very promissing for outdoors (yes, I am eligible to compete for UML in the spring). The past two years I have not been able to run a full outoodr season due to injuries. For now, my biggest concern is staying healthy. Feel free to drop any questions.

Ruben,
ReplyDeleteKeep puttng in the good work. My question is what do you think has been your biggest learning experience while at UMass Lowell in terms of running and in school?
I couldn't pick exactly the "biggest" learning experience in terms of running and/or in school. I think it's a combination of many things that have helped me. When it comes to running, learning to stay consistent and patient when it comes to training has definately helped. However, biggest learning experience is knowing that strength is key to distance running. As you go through my log, you notice that we do very little track workouts compared to most other schools here in New England. One of the biggest changes after coming to Lowell was the implementation of high mileage training along with key tempos, progression runs, fartleks and hills for strength building. I think track workouts can be overrated at times.
ReplyDeleteAs for school, I'm still learning a lot of different things. Academically, English not being my first language, has always been a challenge for me since coming to US. Overall, as a student in college my biggest learning experience has been time management. I literally waste no time during the weekdays. Most days I'm up at 7:30 for morning runs, work 5 to 7 hours during the day, get back for my PM training, then I take night classes and then do homework after. Being able to set a pre-determined schedule and follow it religiously for a full semester can be hard but at the end I've noticed that my productivity in all areas are improving and I'm less stressed out about running.
