Total 80 miles

Next week I should be back into full training mode. I am slowly getting adjusted to all the little add ons to mileage. My leg muscles are very sore, which just shows how weak they were during xc. But that might be a good thing, itmeans I have some good room for improvement to whatever fitness I gained from xc. This week for motivation, I'm going to leave you with a 3k video from almost a year ago at the BU mini meet. This was supposed to be a rust buster, but I found myself running an 18-sec PR, 8:30 to 8:12.

  1. Hey Ruben,

I'm wondering if I could get some advice from you. I trained really well all summer and through the cross country season and felt great all fall but yesterday at nationals (D3) for whatever reason I ran terrible and came up far short of my goals. I remember reading your log last year and you had a somewhat similar experience. How did you handle the disappointment of a bad nationals race and what did you do to bounce back for track? Did you take much of a break from running or just get back to it right away? How quickly did you build up? I'd really like to redeem myself indoors so if you can offer any advice it would be much appreciated. Thanks a lot.

  2. Anonymous- I'm sorry about your race if it didnt go as planned. I feel your pain as I was in the similar situation.I would say the best thing for you to do is not judge your entire season on just one race. One race doesn't make a career and neither does it make a season good or bad. What I would do in your situation is re-examine your training and see if you could have done anything better. If you dont find any mistakes, then you have to keep believing in your training theories and most important believe in yourself that your day will come.

Last year, I thought I was 100% as fit as I could be for ncaas. But...things dont always go as planned. Sometimes 1% luck is needed. After xc was over, I took 3-4 days off and a light week of training. I got back to doing the same exact training I was before. I stayed away from anythingthat was running related for a while and slowly built my confidence.Wish you the best.
